Castle of Love - Castello di Amoroso

Before reaching the mineral springs of Calistoga, in northern California, near the small town of Saint Helena, you find yourself in a castle that bears a mysterious name, Castello di Amorosa - Castle of Love. It was worth building for 30 years. The great-great-grandfather of the family, an Italian immigrant, Vittorio Sattui, planted the first shoots of vines from his native area. Dario Stattui, continued his legacy with his own interest to the medieval architecture.

This winery has rich roots. For more than 120 years they have been making high-quality wines, and they do not plan to distribute them in large stores. You can only buy their wines here. The production of the winery itself is not as large as that of nearby wine giants, only 15,000 cases of wine. But among the wide selection of wines, there are real gems.

From 8000 tons of hand-cut stones, most of them were brought to California from Italy, 107 rooms and halls were erected, 8 levels of floors, 4 of which are underground. A huge hall for the processing of grapes and its fermentation in huge tanks, made with the latest technology. The spirit of the Middle Ages settled there and will rightfully be passed on from generation to generation. 30 acres of land are planted with vineyards and attract tourists with their unique beauty and fresh air. If you have a free day and 2-4 hours on the road, you will get real pleasure for all members of your family.

Numerous tours are available for all budgets. We decided to have reservation for party of 3 adults and 3 children. Adult tickets cost $50 for Standing Reserve Tasting. It includes tasting of 5 wines and explore on your own numerous places at the Castle: courtyard, Truncated tower, Chapel, Great Hall, Knight Hall, Main tasting room and gift shop. It took us numerous hours to complete our tour, not to mention that surrounding areas are open for leisured hiking.

Take along everything for a picnic and toys for the kids to keep them entertained with play knights and beautiful princesses.

This place was truly created with lots of medieval inspirations and love.
